Amazon has decided to work with Foxconn’s subsidiary Cloud Network Technology in Chennai to make its Fire TV Stick (which helps streaming on smart TVs). Amazon used to largely source its TV fire sticks from China and Taiwan for the India market. This move has come after the Indian government recently introduced production-linked incentives (PLIs) for various electronic products. “

Amazon India Head Amit Agarwal on Tuesday tweeted that amazon’s decision to manufacture in India would contribute directly to the local economy, creating jobs & boost Indian innovation, thus reiterating their commitment to Make in India”.
IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad stated that “Under the leadership of PM @narendramodi, electronics manufacturing in India has recently attracted some of the biggest investments from global giants. Happy to share Amazon is the latest to join this success story of India.” Prasad also urged Amazon to consider taking products made by local artisans and Ayurvedic products globally through its platform to build and boost exports of locally made consumer brands globally.
This is part of its additional $1-billion investment for India to digitise 10 million small and medium businesses and enable $10 billion in cumulative exports from India. Amazon is now the second major company to leave china and start manufacturing its products in India after Apple Inc. This move by Amazon will tend to be beneficial for Atmanirbar campaign of the government and at the same time would help amazon to save some tax by manufacturing its products in domestic companies.
